Translation work in our company is carried out by qualified and experienced translators whose native language is the target language. The translation is then proofread by at least one other translator who has the necessary competence in the source language.

Our translators and correctors are selected with regard to their competences and their formal and personal qualifications.

Competences

Our translators must have the following professional competences:

  • Translating competence
    This is based on the ability to translate the source text into the target language with the adequate efficiency level with regard to content, language level, intention and style, and in accordance with the agreements, rules and requirements.
  • Linguistic and textual competence
    These are based on a command of the source and the target language and require knowledge and an overview of text type conventions for general texts and specialist texts as well as the competence to realise them.
  • Research competence
    This consists of effectively researching the additional linguistic and specialist knowledge required for understanding the source text and for preparing the translation.
  • Cultural competence
    Cultural competence comprises knowledge of information on the locale, behaviour patterns and value systems that is characteristic for the source and target culture, as well as the capability to make use of it.
  • Technical competence
    Technical competence includes the skills and capabilities that a translator needs to prepare and complete translations in a professional way. It comprises handling technical resources.
Formal qualifications
  • Formal advanced training in translation with a recognised degree,
  • Comparable training in another specialised field with proof of at least two years’ experience as a translator
    and/or
  • State registered translator’s examination before the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce),
  • Swearing in as an interpreter before the Landgericht (Regional Court) with local jurisdiction, or authorisation to act as a translator from the Oberlandesgericht (Higher Regional Court) with local jurisdiction
  • In exceptional cases, many years’ successful work as an interpreter or translator.
Personal qualifications

These consist on the one hand of the translators’ personal suitability, such as e.g. their ability as translators, experience as technical translators, and on the other on their technical facilities (handling modern communication media and file formats), suggested prices, free capacities, continued further vocational training, etc.
